Build a Character the Colony Reacts To

On this page

The Outer Worlds 2 asks you to build a character with the abilities and choices that reflect your playstyle, and then makes the colony answer for it.

Playstyle comes first

Four things The Outer Worlds 2 weighs: your abilities and choices, your approach from diplomacy to chaos, a colony that reacts to your moves, and companions with their own goals.
Your strengths and your flaws both count. Open the full image.

The store’s instruction is to build your character with the abilities and choices that reflect your playstyle, and it offers a few shapes: a disciple of diplomacy, an astute strategist, a crusader for chaos, or something different altogether. Naming those three as examples is a reminder that the build is about approach rather than raw power.

The colony reacts to your every move

That is how the store describes the consequence system, and it says the narrative is yours to own as a result. A world that answers every choice is also one where a build you did not think through properly becomes a reputation you have to live with for the rest of the run.

Companions have their own plans

You recruit companions with unique traits, backgrounds and goals, and you can either help them achieve their ambitions or steer them toward your own objectives, with your influence shaping their growth or their death. The store also notes that you can dumb, which is the clearest sign that the character options are meant to be played with.

The situation they are all reacting to is covered in chasing the rifts to Arcadia. The factions competing for that colony are covered in picking a side in the factional war.
