Build Aegis Around One Fighting Style
On this page
The publisher describes Aegis with extraordinary skills you can define yourself: a ruthless warrior, a hard-hitting bodyguard, a deadly dancer or a virtuoso of the elemental arts. Each of those is a different answer to the same fight.
Choose direct or indirect damage
The four named styles split cleanly in two. Warrior and bodyguard are direct: close the gap, trade once, finish. Dancer and elemental arts are indirect: movement, spacing and damage applied from outside the automaton’s swing. Both work, because the store describes a wide variety of weapons and skills to approach each fight your own unique way.
Spend upgrades on the style you play
Ability upgrades are described as something you do as you progress rather than something you collect. That makes an early commitment cheap and a split investment expensive: points placed in a style you keep abandoning are points you never feel in a fight.
Match the weapon to the answer you use
If you answer with parries, a heavy weapon that needs long openings will fight your own plan. If you answer with dodges and spacing, shorter openings are enough. Check this before upgrading a weapon, because the store ties skills and weapons together as one approach rather than two independent ladders.
The rhythm that makes any of these styles work is covered in reading the automaton before you commit. For reaching fights you can see but not get to, see grapple and dash routes.
