Explore a Thousand Planets

On this page

Starfield is set in the year 2330, when humanity has ventured beyond our solar system, settled new planets and is living as a spacefaring people.

More than a thousand planets

Four layers of Starfield exploration: over 1000 planets, cities and wild landscapes, Constellation and its artifacts, and factions with quests across the Settled Systems.
The map is a mystery, not a checklist. Open the full image.

The store invites you to venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets, discovering the fauna, flora and resources needed to craft everything from medicine and food to equipment and weapons. A number that large is really a statement about how you travel, because it rewards picking a direction over completing a region.

Constellation and the artifacts

You join Constellation, the last group of space explorers seeking rare artifacts throughout the galaxy, and you navigate the vast expanse of space in what the store calls Bethesda’s biggest and most ambitious game. That framing is what turns the map into a mystery rather than a checklist of destinations.

Factions, quests and a dangerous galaxy

Alongside bustling cities, dangerous bases and wild landscapes, you meet and recruit a memorable cast of characters, join the adventures of various factions and take on quests across the Settled Systems. The store also warns that space can be a dangerous place, with a refined combat system built around long-range rifles, laser weapons and demolitions, all modifiable, plus zero G environments and boost packs.

The build that decides how you fight is covered in deciding who you will become. What you fly and build is covered in building the ship and the outposts.
