Choose Mercy's Guardian Angel Landing Before You Fly
On this page
Choose Mercy’s destination before activating Guardian Angel. Aim to reach an ally you can help without finishing stranded in the open. These core movement choices apply on PC in Quick Play and Competitive; use the ability names to find your configured controls.
Pick the ally and the landing
Guardian Angel moves Mercy toward an ally. During flight, Jump launches her forward and Crouch launches her upward. Guardian Angel controls
Choose an ally you can target, then check the space around them. Look for nearby cover and the direction opponents are facing. A teammate who needs help can still be a poor destination if the flight leaves both of you surrounded.
Compare positions when more than one ally is available. The closest may leave you in the same dangerous lane; another may offer an escape and a way to keep supporting. Check Guardian Angel’s availability before relying on it. If your current position is protected and useful, stay until moving serves a purpose.
Learn one launch at a time
Arrange a quiet custom session with a willing friend. Have them stay in one place while you try a plain Guardian Angel flight. Return to the same start and repeat with Jump during flight, then try Crouch on a separate run.
Compare where each flight ends. Notice whether you pass your intended cover or finish higher than expected. Change one input at a time so you can tell what caused the movement.
In a match, look beyond the teammate before launching. Forward movement needs a useful landing ahead; upward movement can leave you visible to enemies.
Decide when to slow your fall
Angelic Descent slows Mercy’s fall. Angelic Descent Compare a normal fall with one using Angelic Descent from a similar position. Watch whether the extra airtime helps you reach cover or keeps you exposed longer.
Resume support after arriving
Recheck the nearby ally’s health and incoming pressure. Caduceus Staff’s primary fire heals; its secondary fire boosts an ally’s damage. Staff beams Choose the beam for what that teammate is doing now.
The Ana grenade guide covers choosing who needs support. Read the Reinhardt Charge guide to recognise when your tank is about to change position.
