Equip and Rank Up a Keepsake

On this page

Use the Keepsake Display Case at the Crossroads to equip a Keepsake you already own. These steps cover regular runs; choose a Keepsake with rank progress still to fill if you want to strengthen it through use.

Equip it before leaving

Equip an owned Keepsake at the Crossroads, clear encounters while wearing it and inspect its progress. For a mid-run change use an available post-Guardian case after Kindred Keepsakes has been cast; a swapped-out Keepsake cannot return that run.
Encounter progress goes to the Keepsake you use; keep it equipped when ranking it is your goal. Open the full image.

Open the case, select an owned Keepsake and read its effect and rank. Equip it, then check which one is shown as equipped before starting the run. You use one at a time.

Clear encounters while keeping that Keepsake equipped. Those clears advance its rank progress, and the upgrade happens automatically once enough encounters are complete. Inspect it again to see the progress or higher rank. The increase is permanent; there is no separate rank purchase in this process.

If your aim is to rank this particular Keepsake, keep using it. A different equipped Keepsake will receive the encounter progress instead.

Change it during a run

After you have cast Kindred Keepsakes, a case becomes available in the post-Guardian fountain rooms at the end of most regions. Use one when present to select another owned Keepsake. Without that incantation, make your choice at the Crossroads.

Decide before closing the case: after a change, closing it locks access until the next post-boss case. A Keepsake you swap out cannot be equipped again for the rest of that run. Keep the current one if earning its next rank matters more than changing effects.

For your other starting bonuses, increase Grasp for Arcana cards. PS5 players can also configure 120 Hz output before playing.
