Pick From Nine Vocations

On this page

Dark Arisen offers nine different vocations, and the store says each comes with a variety of skill options rather than a single fixed kit.

Nine vocations, and skills on top

Four parts of a Dark Arisen build: nine vocations, skill options for each, armour that can be upgraded and enhanced, and Pawns trained to your combat style.
Two of these four are fixed at the start of a plan. Open the full image.

Nine different vocations for players to choose from with a variety of skill options for each is the store’s own description. The number matters less than the shape of the choice: the vocation sets the style, and the skills are where you decide how that style actually behaves in a fight.

Armour is part of the build

Armor can be upgraded and enhanced, which means gear occupies the same slot in your planning as the vocation does. In a game where enemies are beaten by finding weaknesses, having gear you can improve gives you a second lever to pull when a fight is not going the way you wanted it to.

Train the Pawns to match

Pawn companions can be trained to fit your desired combat style, so the party can be shaped around the vocation you chose. Since you already know they learn from traits observed in play, the practical approach is to decide what you want the party to do and then behave in a way that teaches them.

The dynamic combat this feeds into is covered in climbing it and cutting it apart. How the Pawns learn is covered in training three Pawns that fight alone.
