Read the Monster Before the Fight
On this page
Beyond the town borders, Dragon’s Dogma 2 hands you a decision the store states plainly: engage the monsters you find, or look for another way past them.
Three things to read
Diverse monsters are said to inhabit the lands outside the towns, and the store warns you to be aware of your party’s setup, the terrain around you and the monsters you face. Checking those three before committing is the whole skill being described in that sentence.
Alternatives are legitimate
Deciding between engaging in battles or finding alternatives is presented as a real choice rather than a failure of nerve. That matters in a game where the party you built may simply not have an answer for what is standing in the road, and turning around costs far less than a wipe.
The people lead you to the work
Travelers, merchants, soldiers and other folk go about their own lives with their own objectives and motives, and the store says they may approach you and ask for a favour, leading you to a quest. That is how a great deal of the world’s content starts, so the inhabitants are sources of work rather than scenery.
The Arisen you bring to those fights is covered in choosing your Arisen and vocation. The company you bring is covered in borrowing two Pawns from other players.
