About
The Gift is a historical romance by the American writer Julie Garwood, published in 1991. It is the third book of her Crown's Spies series.
Sara Winchester was a child bride and has grown into a beauty who has spent years happily waiting for her husband, Nathan, Marquess of St. James, to return and claim her. She is charmingly innocent, and she dismisses the ancient feud that divides Nathan's family from her own as something that cannot really matter between the two of them.
What she does not know is what Nathan has been doing in the years he was away, which includes a career as the notorious pirate Pagan. The man who comes back for her is perplexing, arrogant and handsome, and he is a good deal more complicated than the husband she had been imagining, having never told anybody the truth about his past.
Aboard his ship, the Seahawk, Sara turns out to be braver and more determined than her upbringing suggested, and she sets about winning his heart completely. Once the two of them return to England, her love is tested by a conspiracy intended to tear them apart, and the novel follows what the pair of them do about it.
