Stormbreaker
Alex Rider is fourteen, and he is told that his uncle died in a car accident.
About
Stormbreaker is a young adult action-adventure novel by British author Anthony Horowitz and the first book in the Alex Rider series. It was released in the United Kingdom on 4 September 2000 and in the United States on 21 May 2001, where it became a New York Times bestseller.
Alex Rider is fourteen when his uncle dies, and the official explanation does not survive contact with the physical evidence, since the car carries bullet holes. He learns that his uncle was an agent for MI6 and is then recruited to investigate the killing and complete the work that had been interrupted. The book's initial movement is therefore an investigation conducted by a schoolboy inside an adult institution.
The mission takes him undercover to Port Tallen in Cornwall, where the Stormbreaker computer factory is preparing to ship machines that carry a biological agent designed to infect their users. The plot to distribute them would kill hundreds of thousands of people in Britain. Since publication the novel has sold more than nine million copies worldwide, appeared on the BBC's The Big Read list, and received a California Young Reader Medal in 2005. A film adaptation starring Alex Pettyfer was released in 2006.
