For Your Eyes Only
Ian Fleming's For Your Eyes Only, published in 1960, is a book of five short stories and the eighth to feature the British Secret Service agent James Bond.
About
For Your Eyes Only is the eighth book in Ian Fleming's series about the British secret agent James Bond. Jonathan Cape published it on 11 April 1960, and it was the first of the Bond books to be made up of short stories rather than one continuous narrative.
The five stories are From a View to a Kill, Risico, Quantum of Solace, The Hildebrand Rarity and For Your Eyes Only. Three of them began as ideas Fleming had prepared for a television series that never got made, and one had been written earlier and left unpublished. He also used the shorter form for a few experiments, including a story written in homage to W. Somerset Maugham, who he admired.
Between them the stories take Bond from America, where a Cuban thug is assassinated, to the Seychelles, and into the destruction of an international heroin ring, keeping to the sudden emergencies and the women who are not quite what they seem. A 1981 Bond film took its title from the collection and borrowed material from two of the stories.
