Doctor No
James Bond is sent to Jamaica to find out what happened to the head of the British intelligence station there, and he arrives expecting something close to a holiday.
About
Doctor No is a novel by the English writer Ian Fleming, published in 1958 and the sixth of his books about James Bond.
Bond is sent to Jamaica by his chief after the head of the British intelligence station on the island disappears, and he arrives with the expectation of a quiet investigation in the sun. A centipede placed in his hotel room ends that, and the enquiries he makes on the island keep pointing at the same man: Doctor Julius No, who lives on an island of his own off Jamaica and who does not welcome visitors. Bond has to get onto that island to find out what the doctor is hiding, and the novel follows the arrangement he makes to do it and the people who help him. Fleming wrote the Bond books while working as a journalist, and the settings come from the time he spent in Jamaica during the war and after it. This is the sixth of the Bond novels, and the island is as much a character in it as the doctor.
