Dark Guardian

Dark Guardian is a paranormal romance novel by Christine Feehan, published in 2002 and the ninth book in her Dark series. It follows Jaxon Montgomery and Lucian Daratrazanoff, and Jaxon has spent nearly her entire life as somebody else's obsession.

She was an exceptional child and the daughter of a Navy SEAL, so she was given the best training available. Her father's closest friend, Tyler Drake, believed that her father did not care for her enough and killed him in order to take his place as her stepfather; after that her mother became an addict and Jaxon was left to raise her younger brother.

Tyler eventually killed her mother and her brother, and as a highly trained operator he was able to avoid capture, which is how Jaxon's life became a long pursuit. She becomes a policewoman and then finds herself set up to be murdered, and her only remaining option is Lucian, a man who runs with wolves and can call on the heavens, and who had spent centuries alone before he began to want her.
