About
Cyclops is an adventure novel by the American writer Clive Cussler, published in 1986. It is one of the books about Dirk Pitt, and it is set during the Cold War, when the politics of the period supply much of the story's pressure.
A wealthy American financier vanishes while hunting for treasure in an antique airship, and the blimp drifts from Cuban waters towards Florida carrying a crew of dead Soviet cosmonauts. What should have been an eccentric disappearance becomes an international incident, and the question of who was aboard and what they were doing becomes the thread Pitt follows.
His investigation uncovers a covert group of American industrialists who have put a colony on the moon and who intend to defend the secret whatever it costs. The novel moves between the airship, the Caribbean and a conspiracy that reaches into space, with Pitt's team working against both the industrialists and the Soviet interest in what the blimp was carrying. The colony has a name of its own, and the title of the book comes from it.
