Black Wind
A Second World War submarine carrying a biological weapon is still missing, and the plans that went with it surface decades later in the hands of people prepared to use them.
About
Black Wind is an adventure novel by Clive Cussler, published in 2004 and one of the later Dirk Pitt books. Its plot is built on a Japanese submarine from the Second World War, its missing cargo and the plans for a biological attack that were never carried out.
The novel brings Dirk Pitt together with his grown children, who are now part of the same organisation, and it moves between the historical material and a present-day conspiracy. Charts from the war years and a group of people who want to finish what was started in the 1940s give the book its two threads, the search for the submarine supplies the deadline, and the family arrangement is the novel's other interest.
Cussler had been writing the series for decades by this point, and the books are built on technical detail about ships and weapons rather than on character development. It was a bestseller on publication, and it is one of the entries in which the next generation of the family takes part in the operation.
