Club Dead
Sookie Stackhouse's boyfriend has been distant, and then he disappears while working on a task for the queen of the Louisiana vampires.
About
Club Dead is a novel by the American writer Charlaine Harris, published in 2003 as the third book of the Southern Vampire Mysteries.
The story takes place in December, and Sookie's problems arrive in the usual order: first a werewolf comes into the bar where she works and has to be dealt with, then she learns that Bill has lied to her about where he was going, and then she finds herself in Jackson, Mississippi, among vampires who are not particularly interested in her safety. The title comes from the club where the local vampire elite spend their evenings, and much of the book is a study of the politics that connect the vampire kingdoms of Louisiana and Mississippi, which are run like businesses with territories and manners. Sookie's telepathy, which is what makes her useful to everyone and unable to have an ordinary evening, does most of the work; she is also given a new companion in the werewolf Alcide Herveaux, and the novel uses him to widen the world beyond vampires. The book was adapted as the third season of the television series True Blood, broadcast in 2010, with a number of changes.
