The third A Court of Thorns and Roses book opens with Feyre back in the Spring Court, playing a role she has no intention of finishing.

About

A Court of Wings and Ruin is the third A Court of Thorns and Roses novel, published by Bloomsbury in 2017. It opens with Feyre Archeron back in the Spring Court, playing a role she has no intention of finishing, and holding that position together means gathering information on Tamlin while appearing to be exactly what he expects of her.

The deception is the engine of the first half. A single slip would unravel what Feyre built across the courts in the previous book, and the people she is deceiving include both the High Lord she left and the king moving against Prythian. She has to work out which of the other High Lords can be trusted while the alliances that will decide the war are still being negotiated.

The war itself is the second half. Prythian is moving toward a conflict it is not ready for, the human lands are part of the calculation, and the forces assembled against the courts are larger than any single one of them. Maas keeps the narration with Feyre, so the politics arrive as a series of choices she has to make rather than as a view from above, and the gathering of the High Lords and their demands sit inside that negotiation.

This volume closes the first arc of the series. A novella sits between it and the fourth novel, and the later books widen the cast and the map again. Everything the first two volumes set up, from the bargain and the mountain to the treaty with the human side of the wall, is drawn on here, and the third book assumes both of its predecessors have been read.
