Akecheta shelters Maeve's daughter at the Ghost Nation camp and tells her how he came to understand the park. He also keeps the badly wounded William alive. Years earlier, Akecheta lived peacefully with Kohana before a new narrative made him a warrior. Finding the maze after Arnold's death started an obsession that survived those changes, and a delirious Logan later suggested that this was the wrong world.
Akecheta found a vast construction site that he believed contained a door out. He reunited with Kohana and awakened her memories, but technicians removed her and replaced her in the park. His search eventually led him to allow a guest to kill him, hoping to find her beyond death. Waking during maintenance, he explored the Mesa and discovered Kohana motionless in cold storage among other hosts who had disappeared.
Back in the park, Akecheta spread the maze and helped others remember the people they had lost. Ford eventually recognized his awakening and told him to gather his people when the Deathbringer returned. In the current rebellion, Emily arrives to take William from the camp. At the Mesa, Lee keeps Maeve alive while Charlotte studies her ability to communicate through the hosts' network. Maeve has been listening to Akecheta through her daughter; he assures her that he will protect the girl as though she were his own.
