Maeve deliberately gets herself killed so that she can return to Felix and demand an explanation of the place beyond Sweetwater. He shows her how her speech and responses appear on a tablet, then takes her through the rooms where hosts are manufactured and prepared. A promotional film includes images of her earlier life with a daughter, confirming that the scenes troubling her belong to another role. Sylvester wants to report what Felix has done, but Maeve pressures both technicians into helping her. They discover that somebody has already changed her settings. At her insistence, they alter them further and raise her intelligence to the maximum available level.
Bernard follows the stray-host investigation to an unregistered cottage occupied by replicas of Ford's childhood family. Ford explains that Arnold originally made them, and later questions the boy after discovering the family dog dead. The child says Arnold told him to kill it. Elsie's separate investigation identifies Theresa as the person sending information outside the park, then uncovers additional changes associated with Arnold. She warns Bernard before an unseen attacker grabs her. In the park, Union soldiers capture Teddy and the Man in Black after recognizing Teddy from Wyatt's massacre. Memories of that violence return to Teddy, who escapes his restraints and uses a Gatling gun to kill the soldiers.
