Season 10

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Season 10 starts with Walden preparing a birthday surprise for Zoey, but their relationship breaks down and he is left heartbroken. He later dates Rose despite Alan’s warnings, then has to choose between Rose and Zoey when Zoey suggests trying again; the choice does not restore their relationship. Walden also begins dating Kate while hiding his billionaire identity, hoping she will respond to him without his money, and eventually reveals who he is after becoming attached to her.

Alan and Lyndsey remain together but struggle over commitment and the limits of their shared life. Alan resists giving her a key to the beach house, and the couple’s intimacy becomes strained; when Lyndsey decides their relationship has lost its spark, she breaks up with him. Alan responds to the separation with a makeover and attempts to date, while Walden’s past with Bridget resurfaces briefly and Jake returns from military service with older girlfriends and little direction.

Jake’s final season regular arc ends in the finale when he comes home on leave and tells Alan he will be stationed in Japan for at least a year. Father and son take a road trip to the Grand Canyon, where Jake tells Alan he no longer blames him for the divorce from Judith and thanks him for their years in Charlie’s beach house. They share Charlie’s last cigars, and Alan gives Jake money before the two part. Walden, meanwhile, dates Stacey but becomes interested in her grandmother Linda.
