Beyond Life and Death

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Cooper follows Earle and the abducted Annie toward Glastonbury Grove, using the cave map and Truman's knowledge of the woods. The Log Lady's oil and Ronette's reaction to its smell connect the gateway to Laura's murder. Cooper leaves Truman outside and enters the red-curtained rooms alone. Familiar people appear in shifting forms: Laura, the elderly waiter, the Giant and the small man from his dream. Annie and Caroline become difficult to distinguish as the rooms repeat and the figures turn hostile. Earle offers to spare Annie if Cooper gives up his soul. Cooper agrees, but BOB intervenes and takes Earle's soul instead.

Outside the Lodge, Nadine regains her adult memory and reacts in distress to Ed and Norma together. Donna's family confronts Ben, and Doc Hayward strikes him, leaving his condition uncertain. Audrey chains herself inside the bank in protest against Ghostwood just as Andrew and Pete arrive to open Eckhardt's safe-deposit box. The box contains a bomb, and the explosion leaves the people inside in unresolved danger. Cooper is pursued and caught by his own double in the Lodge. Truman later finds Annie and a figure who appears to be Cooper in the woods. At the hotel, that figure smashes his head into the bathroom mirror. BOB's reflection and the double's laughter expose the terrible failure of Cooper's apparent return.
