Slaves and Masters

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

James and Donna hide while the police question Evelyn and Malcolm about Jeffrey's fatal crash. James still hopes Evelyn will tell the truth and clear him, despite the trap she helped arrange. In Twin Peaks, Bobby admits his relationship with Shelly and identifies Hank as the man who shot Leo. Albert returns with evidence that Earle has been distributing pieces of Caroline's wedding dress, bringing another part of Cooper's past into the investigation. At the cabin, Earle treats Leo's injury but then forces him into service with an electric collar. His apparent kindness becomes another form of captivity for the injured fugitive.

Cooper quietly collects fibres from Josie's coat, and Albert matches them to material found near Cooper's hotel room after the shooting. Cooper insists on certainty before telling Truman. Pete agrees to help with the chess game, aiming to prevent Earle from taking more pieces and lives. Ben's family and Jacoby stage a Confederate victory to bring him out of his fantasy, and he returns to himself after the performance. James goes back to Evelyn and is knocked unconscious by Malcolm. Donna interrupts before he can be killed, and Evelyn shoots Malcolm instead. Cooper reaches his hotel room and finds Caroline's death mask with a recording from Earle, who demands the next move in their game.
