The Flintstones

Season 1

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble turn ordinary Bedrock plans into contests of stubbornness. When Fred helps get Barney fired, he tries to find his friend work, only for Barney’s new furniture-repossessing job to put Fred’s own television in danger. They also build a swimming pool meant to serve both backyards, then argue over who owns which end. Money and status supply further schemes: Fred and Barney gamble on dinosaur races to finance a pool hall, hide a drive-in restaurant purchase from Wilma and Betty, and get pulled into club competitions that test their friendship.

Wilma and Betty pursue their own outings and ambitions, including a trip to Hollyrock after winning a slogan contest, while Fred repeatedly tries to keep up with them or redirect their plans. A mistaken engagement-ring discovery leaves Wilma thinking Barney’s present for Betty is meant for her, and Fred scrambles to make things right. The couples’ troubles stay domestic and episodic: a bank-robbery mix-up puts Fred and Barney in danger, a hunting holiday brings them face to face with a talking Snorkasaurus, and Fred’s attempts to impress Wilma with an anniversary piano backfire. Across the season, their schemes usually collapse into reconciliations, leaving the two neighboring households and their routines intact.
