Season synopsis
Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.
With Daniel gone, SG-1 tests Jonas Quinn as his replacement while a new Goa’uld weapon threatens Earth through the Stargate. Teal’c returns to Chulak and finds that Drey’auc has died; Rya’c blames his father. He and Bra’tac later take Rya’c with them to destroy the attack device. Jonas earns a place on the team, then confronts the political conflicts and concealed history of his homeworld, Langara. The season also strains Earth’s partnerships: Tok’ra, Free Jaffa and Tau’ri personnel must share an evacuation site under pressure, while an apparent wonder drug leads SG-1 to a Goa’uld queen and the origins of its symbiote supply.
The Goa’uld threat grows as Ba’al captures and tortures O’Neill, and Daniel, unable to intervene directly, offers ascension as an escape. O’Neill refuses and asks Daniel to make his next death final, but an attack by Yu’s forces gives him a chance to escape. Elsewhere, SG-1 helps the Asgard confront Replicators on their homeworld, using the Prometheus and an Asgard time-dilation device in a mission that tests O’Neill’s willingness to sacrifice. In the finale, Daniel warns the team that Anubis is heading for Abydos to find the Eye of Ra. SG-1 recovers the Eye and an Ancient tablet, but Anubis overwhelms the defenders and destroys the planet. Daniel defies the ascended beings’ rule against interference; he is taken away, while the Abydonians survive on another plane after Oma helps them ascend.
