Season 2

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Season 2 opens with SG-1 already aboard Goa’uld attack ships headed for Earth. Bra’tac, Teal’c’s former mentor, helps the prisoners resist, while the SGC begins moving people to a hidden site in case the planet falls. The team survives the immediate crisis, but a new encounter leaves Carter sharing her body with Jolinar, a rebel Goa’uld whose memories and loyalties expose SG-1 to the Tok’ra resistance. That connection gives Carter’s father Jacob a chance to survive terminal cancer by joining with the Tok’ra Selmak, bringing her family into the conflict and creating a cautious alliance. Teal’c’s efforts to return to Chulak also become personal when Apophis kidnaps and brainwashes Rya’c; the team frees his son from Apophis’s brainwashing, though the danger to Jaffa families remains.

Other missions widen the stakes on both sides of the gate. A stolen climate device exposes rogue use of Earth’s second Stargate and NID efforts to take alien technology, while O’Neill briefly receives knowledge from an ancient machine that identifies Earth as part of a larger history. The Goa’uld Sokar emerges as a rival powerful enough to threaten the SGC directly, and Apophis seeks shelter there after losing power; the team must weigh information against the risk of protecting its enemy. The finale appears to place O’Neill in a future where he has been revived after 79 years, then reveals that the changed SGC is a Goa’uld interrogation set. He frees Carter and Daniel, but Hathor stops their escape and plans to implant one of them with a Goa’uld. Teal’c has awakened separately on Earth, so the season leaves SG-1 divided, with Jack, Carter and Daniel captive and their return unresolved.
