Season 8

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Four weeks after the Fortress collapses with Clark and Lex inside, Clark is powerless in a Russian work camp while Oliver and the Justice League search for him. Oliver finds Clark there, and they continue the search for Chloe. After returning to Metropolis, Clark starts at the Daily Planet and takes a more deliberate role as the Red-Blue Blur, while Tess Mercer assumes control of LuthorCorp and searches for Lex, who is missing and presumed dead. Clark and Lois grow closer, but he protects his identity. Chloe's Brainiac infection erases memories and endangers her relationships.

A new paramedic, Davis Bloome, becomes close to Chloe as he tries to understand the blackouts and violent deaths he cannot remember. Clark suspects Davis is dangerous, but Chloe defends him and their trust is repeatedly tested. The season eventually confirms that Davis carries Doomsday, a Kryptonian creature sent to destroy Clark. Doomsday repeatedly emerges from Davis, and the two are finally separated with black kryptonite; the monster is trapped below ground, while Davis survives as a human and still poses a threat. Clark’s choice to believe Davis can be saved divides him from Oliver and the Justice League.

Jimmy and Chloe’s wedding is interrupted by Doomsday, and Jimmy’s insecurity worsens as he struggles with addiction and distrust. In the finale, Jimmy learns Clark is the Blur, but Davis—separate from the creature—impales him in a jealous attack. Jimmy fights back, killing Davis before dying in Chloe’s arms. At his funeral, his full name is revealed as Henry James Olsen, and his younger brother is introduced; Chloe gives the boy Henry’s camera. Clark blames himself for Jimmy’s death and withdraws from his friends as Tess activates the Orb.
