Dylan holds the overtime switches while Mark, Irving and Helly wake as their innie selves outside Lumon. Mark is at Ricken's book-reading party and discovers that Devon is his sister and Ricken is his brother-in-law. He tries to speak privately with Devon, but guests keep interrupting. Ricken tells him that Mark chose severance after Gemma died. Irving wakes in his apartment and finds his outside self's paintings of a dark corridor. He searches through a trunk and finds information his outside self has collected about Lumon employees, including Burt, then drives to Burt's address. He finds Burt with another man but still knocks on the door and calls his name.
At a gala, Helly learns her outside identity is Helena Eagan and that she was severed to promote public support for the procedure. Her father, Jame, tells her Lumon wants to expand severance to everyone. Mark speaks privately with Devon and warns her about Lumon; he reveals that Mrs. Selvig is his boss, and Devon realizes she left her baby with Cobel. Cobel leaves the party, but the baby is later found unharmed. Helly reaches the stage, denounces severance as torture, and is tackled by Natalie. Innie Mark recognizes Gemma in a wedding photo and shouts, 'She's alive!' Dylan strains to hold the switches until Milchick reaches the security room, tackles him and ends the activation.
