Rome celebrates Vorenus and Pullo's arena fight in pictures and performances, turning disobedience into popular heroism. Caesar cannot punish Vorenus without angering the crowd, so he rewards him with a Senate seat and keeps him close as protection. The appointment adds to the resentment caused by Caesar's enlargement of the Senate. Pullo, meanwhile, leaves hospital too soon and is brought back to Vorenus's house. Eirene considers killing him for the murder of her lover but cannot complete the act. Pullo accepts that she has reason to hate him and later invites her to accompany him to a shrine to seek forgiveness.

The conspirators want Caesar dead but hesitate to attack while Vorenus is beside him. Servilia supplies a way to remove the soldier without killing a public favourite: she uses the secret about Niobe's child. Her messenger reaches Vorenus as he accompanies Caesar, and he rushes home to demand the truth. Niobe admits the affair; the confrontation ends with her fatal fall and Vorenus holding her body. With his protector gone and Antony delayed outside, Caesar enters the Senate and is attacked by the conspirators. Brutus joins the killing, then collapses in grief. Servilia announces her victory to Atia and promises further revenge. Away from the murders, Eirene takes Pullo's hand as they walk from the shrine.
