Carrillo's men reach the house where Diana Turbay is being held, but the rescue attempt ends with her death. The failed operation increases pressure on President Gaviria to end the violence through negotiation. Pablo demands protection from extradition, a limited charge and a prison he can build and control. The proposed settlement offers peace at the cost of allowing him extraordinary freedom inside custody.
Gustavo's affair with Marina Ochoa gives the Ochoa brothers another reason to move against Pablo's organisation. Working with Cali, they help expose Gustavo to Carrillo, whose men kill him rather than deliver him for trial. Pablo loses the cousin who has managed the business and challenged his decisions. Valeria tells him that the Ochoas and Pacho were involved, and he orders an attack on Cali's men at a football match.
Pablo buries Gustavo while the vote against extradition takes place. With that protection secured, he surrenders under terms the government can announce as an end to the crisis. Murphy and Peña watch a wanted man leave for his own comfortable prison and struggle to recognise it as a victory. The episode returns to the nightclub operation shown at the start of the series: Murphy passes on information about Poison, accepting a violent response that earlier limits on his conduct had restrained.
