The newspaper report about La Catedral forces President Gaviria to confront the murders committed inside Pablo's prison. Murphy and Peña face the ambassador's anger for leaking the information, but the government can no longer treat Pablo's privileges as a private problem. Plans to move him into genuine custody bring troops around the prison, while officials struggle to control the confrontation without restarting the violence outside.
Vice Minister Eduardo Sandoval enters La Catedral to negotiate in person. Pablo refuses the transfer and holds him hostage, demanding that Gaviria remove the soldiers. The president must now consider the danger to his friend alongside the humiliation of retreating. Inside the prison, Pablo prepares his men for an assault and contacts Tata so that she will know what to do if he cannot return to the family.
Murphy is separately taken to meet Pacho Herrera, who offers cooperation against their shared enemy and reveals compromising material from the nightclub attack. Murphy rejects the attempted pressure and later challenges Peña about who supplied it. When the military finally storms La Catedral, Sandoval is rescued but Pablo escapes. Connie tells Murphy she wants to go home. The surrender agreement has collapsed, leaving the investigators facing another manhunt and Pablo free to resume the conflict beyond the prison walls.
