Elliot wakes in a vacant lot where the Washington Township plant should be and searches a town that looks familiar but has changed. His father is alive, his childhood home is intact, and his mother does not recognise Darlene's name. She insists that neither parent ever hurt him. Elliot learns that he is supposed to marry Angela the following day and travels back to the city to find her. Her parents welcome him, treating the wedding as an ordinary family occasion. Hearing that Angela is alive draws him further into the possibility that Whiterose has given him a life without the losses he remembers.
At the other Elliot's apartment, he searches the computer and finds drawings of himself, Darlene and fsociety. When the apartment's owner returns, the two men question each other. This Elliot explains that he imagined a vigilante hacker whose life was more exciting than his own. The hooded Elliot sees the settled future he has always wanted, but there is already somebody living it. An earthquake injures his counterpart and leaves him unable to move. Elliot answers Angela's call and hears her anticipation of their marriage. The injured man begs him to call an ambulance. Afraid of losing Angela again, Elliot refuses to surrender the life in front of him and kills his counterpart instead.
