Elliot finds a message from Mr. Robot warning that the Dark Army controls the FBI. The episode returns to the previous night to show how Mr. Robot reached that conclusion: he visited Tyrell, whose release has brought him the title of E Corp's chief technology officer. Price makes clear that the appointment carries little real power. Tyrell and Mr. Robot recognise that the Dark Army has used them, and begin discussing resistance against the organisation that shaped their supposed revolution.
In the following day's events, Elliot plans to recover information from the FBI that could undo Five/Nine. Darlene instead tries to use her connection with Dom to obtain access. After meeting her at a bar, she goes home with her and they sleep together. Her attempt to steal Dom's badge is discovered, and Dom brings her into custody. Darlene explains the possibility of reversing the hack and warns that the FBI has been infiltrated, alarming Santiago enough to contact Irving.
Elliot separately arranges a meeting with the Dark Army by claiming to have a Stage 3 proposal involving Ecoin. Leon brings him to Grant, who checks Elliot's laptop as part of the meeting. That inspection is the opening Elliot wanted: he uses it to penetrate the Dark Army's network. Whiterose recognises the proposal as a deception and permits Grant to kill him. Elliot gains access to the organisation's secrets while Darlene's capture puts both siblings in immediate danger.
