Season synopsis
Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.
Lucifer returns from Hell to find his identical twin Michael impersonating him in Los Angeles. Michael tries to take Lucifer’s place and exploit the fears of those around him, including Amenadiel, Maze and Detective Dan Espinoza, while Lucifer and Chloe try to move forward as a couple. Dan learns Lucifer is the Devil, and Michael manipulates him into shooting Lucifer. The first half ends when Michael takes Chloe and time stops during a confrontation with Amenadiel; God appears and tells his sons to stop fighting.
After God arrives, questions about succession replace the family fight. Michael builds support for the throne by exploiting fear and Chloe’s grief after mercenaries hired by Michael kill Dan: Vincent Le Mec shoots him while pursuing Lilith’s necklace and the Flaming Sword. At the Los Angeles Coliseum, Lucifer’s allies face Michael’s angel army, while Maze and Eve bring demons to support him. Michael kills Chloe. Lucifer follows her into Heaven with Lilith’s ring and gives it to her, expecting to burn and die; instead, he returns unexpectedly. He stops Chloe from killing Michael, removes Michael’s wings and receives the other angels’ allegiance as the season closes with Lucifer accepted as God. The unexpected return leaves Chloe alive and the family facing a new celestial order.
