Jack speaks with the Man in Black, who claims that he appeared as Christian after the crash. Zoe interrupts with a demand for Desmond and demonstrates Widmore's weapons by ordering a shell fired nearby. The Man in Black prepares to move his camp, while Sawyer quietly arranges to steal the sailboat and take selected survivors to Hydra Island. Kate refuses to abandon Claire and persuades her to come aboard. Jack, however, believes that leaving would repeat their earlier mistake. He jumps into the sea and swims back. Sawyer reaches Hydra Island, where Sun and Jin finally reunite and she regains her English, but Widmore's men turn their guns on the arriving survivors.
In the flash-sideways, Desmond guides Claire to Ilana's law office, where Jack learns that Claire is his half-sister and another beneficiary of Christian's will. Jack is called away to operate on Locke, who has arrived at the same hospital as the wounded Sun. Sawyer and Miles identify Sayid in footage from Keamy's restaurant and arrest him at Nadia's home. On the island, the Man in Black orders Sayid to kill Desmond. At the well, Desmond asks what Sayid would tell the woman he hopes to recover about the price he paid. Sayid later claims the task is done, without a killing being shown. Artillery hits the beach, and the Man in Black carries the injured Jack away.
