Spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes of Lost.
Kate leaves Aaron with Sun while she tries to identify the client behind the demand for their blood samples. She follows attorney Dan Norton with Jack and sees him visit Claire's mother, Carole. Jack speaks to Carole and discovers that her business concerns a settlement with Oceanic, rather than Aaron. Ben later meets Norton himself, revealing that the lawyer works for him. Kate realizes Ben arranged the threat that drove her from home.
On the island, Charlotte recovers consciousness and joins the journey to the Orchid, where Locke hopes to find a way off the island. Miles develops a nosebleed, and Daniel suggests the symptoms may relate to time previously spent there. A flash brings them to the night of Aaron's birth. Sawyer watches Kate helping Claire deliver the baby but cannot speak to her before another jump takes the scene away. Locke recognizes the light shining from the hatch and avoids approaching his earlier self.
At a later version of the beach camp, the group finds abandoned outriggers and uses one to travel along the coast. Unidentified people pursue them in another boat and open fire. A flash interrupts the attack, leaving the survivors paddling through a storm instead. Separately, a French expedition rescues Jin, alive and drifting on wreckage after the freighter explosion. Once they reach shore, Jin is stunned when the pregnant woman helping him introduces herself as Danielle Rousseau.
