The survivors left on the island lose their camp when a flash of light throws them into another time. Daniel Faraday takes Sawyer, Juliet, Charlotte and Miles to the Swan site to work out when they are. The station changes between an intact hatch and a crater as further flashes move them through its history. Daniel warns Sawyer that they cannot simply change events that have already happened.
Locke travels separately and sees the Nigerian plane crash. Ethan shoots him in the leg before a flash carries him away from the confrontation. In another period, Richard treats the wound and gives Locke a compass to use when they next meet. Richard says everyone who left must return, and tells Locke that saving his friends will require his death. A separate opening scene places Daniel among Dharma workers at the Orchid construction site.
In Los Angeles, Jack and Ben begin trying to gather the Oceanic Six. Sayid fights attackers at a safehouse but is struck by a drugged dart, leaving Hurley to get him out. Lawyers demanding blood samples from Kate and Aaron send Kate fleeing, while Sun tells Widmore she wants Ben dead. Back at an earlier Swan station, Daniel asks Desmond to find his mother at Oxford. Years later, Desmond wakes beside Penny with a new memory of that meeting.
