Alex triggers the Barracks warning system while Keamy’s mercenaries force her through the security fence. Ben, Locke and Hurley fortify Ben’s house as Sawyer tries to reach Claire. Gunfire kills several survivors, and an explosion destroys her house, but Sawyer carries her out alive. Keamy sends Miles with a radio and demands Ben’s surrender. Ben tries to bluff by denying Alex matters to him. Keamy shoots her, leaving Ben stunned by the failure of his negotiation.
Ben enters a hidden chamber and returns before the smoke monster attacks the mercenaries. The survivors escape while he pauses beside Alex’s body. Sawyer takes Claire, Aaron and Miles toward the beach, but Hurley agrees to accompany Locke and Ben in their search for the cabin. At the beach, the freighter doctor’s body washes ashore. Daniel misreports a radio message, and Bernard exposes it: the ship says its doctor is still alive. Daniel admits rescue was never their purpose.
Flashforwards follow Ben after he appears in the Tunisian desert. In Iraq, he finds Sayid grieving at Nadia’s funeral and accuses a man working for Widmore of murdering her. Sayid kills the man and offers to help hunt Ben’s other targets. Ben later confronts Widmore in London and threatens to kill Penny in revenge for Alex. Widmore rejects Ben’s blame and declares that he intends to recover the island.
