Daniel and Charlotte disappear from the beach camp, sending Jack and Juliet after them. Harper Stanhope appears in the jungle and tells Juliet that Ben wants her to kill the pair before they release lethal gas from the Tempest station. Kate encounters the newcomers first and discovers gas masks in their bag, but Charlotte knocks her unconscious. Jack stops to help Kate while Juliet continues to the station alone.
Inside the Tempest, Juliet confronts Daniel at the controls and fights Charlotte. They insist they are trying to neutralize the gas so Ben cannot use it. Juliet lets Daniel continue, and he disables the system before the countdown ends. Outside, she warns Jack that Ben considers her his possession and will endanger anyone close to her. Jack answers by kissing her. At the Barracks, Ben identifies Charles Widmore as the freighter’s owner and bargains for his freedom with information for Locke.
Flashbacks follow Juliet’s earlier life among the Others, including her affair with Goodwin. His wife Harper discovers the relationship and warns that Ben’s interest in Juliet puts Goodwin at risk. After the plane crashes, Ben sends Goodwin to infiltrate the tail-section survivors. Later, he takes Juliet to Goodwin’s body. When she accuses him of wanting Goodwin dead, Ben insists that she belongs to him. In the present, Sawyer and Hurley are dismayed to see Ben walking freely around the Barracks.
