Locke searches for Jacob’s cabin with Ben and Hurley. A dream of Horace Goodspeed directs him to the Dharma mass grave, where he retrieves cabin plans from Horace’s body. Ben says the decision to carry out the Purge belonged to an earlier leader. At the cabin, Locke enters alone and finds Christian Shephard, who claims to speak for Jacob, with Claire beside him. Christian dismisses questions about Aaron and tells Locke that saving the island requires moving it.
On the freighter, Keamy tries to shoot Michael after learning he is Ben’s spy, but the gun fails. Captain Gault helps Sayid take a boat back to the survivors, while Desmond stays aboard. Keamy then prepares a second attack. When Frank refuses to fly him, Keamy cuts the doctor’s throat and shoots Gault. Frank takes off with the mercenaries but drops a satellite phone onto the beach as they pass, giving Jack a signal to follow.
Flashbacks trace Locke’s life from his premature birth after Emily is struck by a car. Richard watches at the hospital and later tests young Locke with a selection of objects. The boy’s choice of a knife displeases him. As a teenager, Locke rejects an invitation linked to Richard’s organization. Years later, during rehabilitation after his fall, Matthew Abaddon encourages him to take a walkabout. In the present, Locke leaves the cabin and tells Ben and Hurley they must move the island.
