Sayid, Jin and Sun remain aboard the sailboat, waiting for their missing companions. Sayid proposes moving to another shore and lighting a signal fire, concealing his intention to lure the Others into an ambush. Sun supports him against Jin's wishes, but Jin recognizes the plan. Ben sends Colleen and a team to seize the boat instead. They avoid the armed men ashore and surprise Sun below deck, where she shoots Colleen before escaping into the water.
Flashbacks show Sun blaming a broken glass ornament on a maid as a child. Years later, her father discovers her affair with Jae Lee. He tells Jin that Jae has dishonored him through theft and orders him killed, without revealing the affair. Jin beats Jae but tells him to leave the country rather than murdering him. After Jin reaches his car, Jae's body falls onto it, a pearl necklace intended for Sun still in his hand.
Kate and Sawyer are forced to clear rocks under Pickett's supervision. Alex secretly asks Kate about Karl. Sawyer kisses Kate as a distraction and attacks the guards, but surrenders when Juliet threatens Kate with a gun. Back in the cages, he describes what he learned about their captors, unaware that Ben is listening through surveillance. Ben separately offers Jack passage home for cooperating and proves outside contact by showing a recording of the Red Sox winning the World Series.
