The episode returns to the crash and follows the tail-section survivors through their first weeks on the island. Ana Lucia revives a young girl, Eko helps the injured and Bernard is rescued from a seat trapped in a tree. Their first night brings an attack in which three adults are taken. Eko kills two attackers and then stops speaking. More survivors die from their injuries, and a later raid takes nine people, including two children. Ana Lucia discovers that one attacker carried a list of the intended captives. Suspecting an infiltrator, she imprisons Nathan in a pit and interrogates him about the disappearances.
Goodwin secretly releases Nathan, then breaks his neck to keep suspicion away from himself. The remaining group finds the Arrow station, containing a Bible, a radio and a glass eye. Ana Lucia confronts Goodwin after realizing that his clothes were dry when he first emerged from the jungle immediately after the water landing. He admits killing Nathan and offers a selective explanation for the abductions. Their fight ends with Ana Lucia killing him with a sharpened stick. Bernard later reaches Boone over the radio, but Ana Lucia dismisses the contact as a trick. Eko finally speaks as Ana Lucia breaks down. The account then catches up with Jin's arrival, the journey toward the main camp and Ana Lucia's shooting of Shannon.
