Two for the Road

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Flashbacks show Ana Lucia leaving the police after her mother questions her about the man she shot. At her airport security job, she meets Christian Shephard and agrees to accompany him to Australia as a bodyguard. She witnesses his drunken demand to see a daughter at a house, but eventually leaves him at a bar. Before boarding Flight 815, Ana Lucia phones her mother, apologises and says she wants to return home and repair their relationship.

At the Swan, the prisoner attacks Ana Lucia before Locke stops him. She seeks a gun from Sawyer and steals his pistol after sleeping with him. Jack and Kate bring Michael back, and he claims the Others have a poorly defended camp where Walt can be rescued. Jack, Locke and Kate go to obtain weapons from Sawyer, leaving Ana Lucia with Michael. Elsewhere, Hurley plans a picnic with Libby, who returns to the hatch for blankets.

Ana Lucia cannot bring herself to shoot the prisoner despite her anger. Michael offers to do it for her, and she hands him the pistol. He turns the weapon on Ana Lucia instead and kills her. Libby walks in carrying the blankets, startling him, and he shoots her too. Michael then enters the armoury and faces the captive. Rather than firing at him, Michael shoots his own arm, leaving the violence without an explanation to the absent survivors.
