Flashbacks show Sawyer teaching Cassidy confidence tricks after she sees through his usual briefcase routine. Their partnership grows closer, and she reveals a substantial divorce settlement that could finance a larger scheme. Sawyer's associate Gordy presses him to steal it despite Sawyer's apparent reluctance. Sawyer tells Cassidy that Gordy threatens them both and sends her away with a bag. He then retrieves the real money he concealed, revealing that her supposed escape was part of the con.
On the island, Jack and Locke lock up the guns and agree to control access together. An attack on Sun creates fear that the Others have returned, and Jin demands a weapon. Kate instead suspects someone within the camp is trying to provoke a response. Sawyer uses her suspicion to warn Locke that Jack is coming for the arsenal. Locke moves the guns while Sawyer remains in the hatch, leaving Jack to find the storeroom empty.
When Jack and Locke argue on the beach, Sawyer interrupts with a rifle and announces that he now controls the weapons. Charlie secretly helped him, attacking Sun and following Locke to the hiding place because he wanted to humiliate Locke. He refuses Sawyer's offer of a heroin-filled statue as payment. Elsewhere, Sayid improves the recovered radio for Hurley. They hear a music broadcast, but neither can establish exactly where the signal originates.
