Season synopsis
Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.
Rhaenyra mourns Lucerys while Daemon sends assassins into the Red Keep to kill Aemond. Unable to find him, they murder Aegon and Helaena's son Jaehaerys instead, giving the Greens a killing to blame on their rival. The war reaches the dragons at Rook's Rest. Rhaenys and Meleys fight for Rhaenyra, but Aemond's intervention burns Aegon and Sunfyre before Vhagar kills Rhaenys and her dragon. Aegon survives with severe injuries.
Aemond rules as regent while Daemon gathers an army at Harrenhal and struggles with visions of his past and possible future. Rhaenyra seeks riders for her unused dragons, taking a deadly chance on people outside the noble families. Addam bonds with Seasmoke, Hugh with Vermithor and Ulf with Silverwing. Their success gives her new strength against Vhagar, but Jace resents the threat their lowborn ancestry poses to his own claim.
Daemon finally kneels to Rhaenyra and commits his army to her cause. In King's Landing, Helaena refuses Aemond's demand to ride into battle, while Tyland secures the Triarchy's help against Corlys's blockade. Alicent secretly visits Rhaenyra and offers to open the capital when Aemond leaves, accepting that Rhaenyra demands Aegon's death. She does not know that Larys is already helping the injured king escape. The season closes with armies and fleets moving toward war, before Rhaenyra's planned capture of the city.
