Jon meets Mance under the pretense of negotiating, but Mance recognizes his intention to kill him. Stannis's cavalry overruns the wildling camp, and Mance is taken prisoner. Jon later burns Ygritte's body north of the Wall. Farther north, wights attack Bran's party near the great tree. Jojen dies, while a Child of the Forest saves Bran, Meera and Hodor. Inside the cave, the three-eyed raven appears as an old man and tells Bran he will never walk again but will fly.
In Meereen, a father brings Daenerys his daughter's burned remains after Drogon kills her. Unable to find Drogon, Daenerys chains Rhaegal and Viserion beneath the city. In King's Landing, Cersei entrusts the wounded Gregor to Qyburn and tells Tywin the truth about her relationship with Jaime. Jaime frees Tyrion from his cell, but Tyrion detours into Tywin's chambers. He finds Shae in Tywin's bed and strangles her, then confronts his father on the privy and kills him with a crossbow.
Varys arranges Tyrion's escape by ship and joins the voyage after hearing the alarm bells. Brienne and Podrick encounter Arya with the Hound. Brienne offers protection, but neither trusts her connection to Jaime. Her duel with the Hound becomes a vicious struggle that ends when she knocks him down a rocky slope. Arya hides from Brienne, then refuses the wounded Hound's plea to kill him. She takes his money and leaves. At the coast, Jaqen's coin persuades a captain to give her passage to Braavos.
