Matt escapes the officers surrounding him when he hears that they intend to execute Vladimir. He brings the wounded Russian into a condemned building and tries to keep him alive long enough to testify against Fisk. Vladimir initially believes Matt killed Anatoly, refusing to trust his explanation of the trap. At the hospital, Claire deals with people injured in the explosions, including Elena and Foggy, while guiding Matt through emergency treatment over the phone.
An honest young officer, Sullivan, enters the building and discovers them. Matt restrains him, but Sullivan manages to alert the police, drawing a force that Fisk can control. Ben arrives to report on the siege and finds detectives unwilling to answer his questions. Inside, Vladimir attacks Matt and both fall through the floor. Matt revives him when his heart stops, still refusing to abandon the witness he needs.
Fisk contacts Matt through Sullivan's radio and offers an escape if he kills Vladimir. Matt refuses. A sniper fires on police outside, and manipulated footage presents the masked man as responsible for the night's violence. Fisk's armed team enters and kills Sullivan. Matt and Vladimir open an access tunnel together, but more attackers approach. Vladimir stays behind with a gun after revealing Leland Owlsley's name, giving Matt a chance to escape as gunfire follows him into the darkness.
