Karen throws Wesley's gun into the water and tries to continue working while concealing what happened. Fisk discovers Wesley's body and searches his phone for the last people he contacted. His mother's memory provides little help, but he moves her out of the nursing home. Matt and Foggy remain estranged, though both keep working against Fisk. Foggy asks Marci to look through material linking her employers at Landman and Zack to the criminal network.
Matt follows a blind courier to Madame Gao's heroin operation. Inside, guards and workers obstruct him, and gunfire starts a fire during his confrontation with Gao. She knocks him away and escapes. Matt turns his attention to getting the workers out, forcing a guard to lead them to safety. Gao later meets Owlsley, and their conversation reveals that they arranged Vanessa's poisoning because they believed her influence was interfering with Fisk's business.
Ben argues with Ellison about publishing his investigation and loses his job after accusing his editor of being compromised. Doris encourages him to publish independently, and he tells Karen he will write the story online. Before he can complete that plan, Fisk is waiting in his apartment. Ben says he visited Fisk's mother alone, protecting Karen's involvement. Fisk refuses to treat the visit as ordinary reporting and strangles him, silencing the journalist before his account can reach the public.
