Matt wakes after Claire has stitched his wounds and finds Foggy waiting for answers. Seeing his friend beneath the mask has shaken Foggy's understanding of their entire relationship. He asks whether Matt is really blind, how his abilities work and how long he has been lying. Matt explains the accident and his training, then demonstrates what he can hear about Foggy. The explanation makes the years of concealed information harder for Foggy to accept.
Their argument is set beside memories of meeting as college roommates, planning their careers and leaving a large law firm together. Foggy gave up a secure job because he trusted Matt's desire to help ordinary clients. Matt describes the abuse he heard in another building and the failure of legal intervention, which led him to beat the perpetrator himself. Foggy sees the danger to everyone around them and challenges Matt's insistence that others obey rules he breaks.
Karen takes Ben to a nursing home while he is considering care arrangements for his wife. Her real purpose is to meet Fisk's mother, who describes Wilson killing his father. At Fisk's fundraising event, guests collapse after drinking poisoned champagne, including Vanessa. Back at Matt's apartment, Foggy leaves after saying he needed a friend rather than a vigilante. The office sign he once imagined for their shared future ends up in the rubbish as he takes his belongings away.
