Season 13

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

The season opens with Russell searching for his kidnapped granddaughter while Ecklie is hospitalized after being shot. Finlay follows a corrupt detective to the place where Kaitlyn is being held, but their escape separates them. Forensic traces eventually lead the team to a house in the desert, where Russell finds Kaitlyn alive. Sara also brings Nick back to the lab after his attempt to leave, keeping the established team together under Russell’s leadership.

Later cases draw on the investigators’ own histories. A journalist found inside an abandoned piano is someone Greg knew through his research into Las Vegas, while a pastor’s murder at Warrick Brown’s grave brings the team back into contact with Warrick’s former wife and son. Finlay recognizes a necklace at a mass grave as belonging to a missing woman from a Seattle investigation. Sara becomes a homicide suspect herself, with evidence suggesting that someone from an earlier case is targeting her.

The finale follows bodies arranged to resemble illustrations from Dante’s Divine Comedy. Bibles and puzzle clues point toward a church whose supposedly reformed members include missing sex workers; Brass’s daughter Ellie is among those unaccounted for. Morgan volunteers to go undercover when a wealthy client requests another woman. Her camera link is cut during the assignment, and the team subsequently learns that Ellie is in danger. By the time Nick and Greg move to retrieve Morgan, she too has vanished. The season ends with both women missing, before the next season reveals what happened.
