Spike and Jet follow a bounty named Giraffe to a blues club, where a young harmonica player called Wen performs beside a man in a wheelchair. Giraffe is watching that pair too. When Spike follows him to a hotel, Giraffe falls from an upper window and dies after handing over a strange ring. His warning makes Spike question which member of the pair poses the danger. Jet's investigation identifies the man in the wheelchair as Zebra, Giraffe's former partner, while old photographs show Wen looking exactly as he does now despite the decades between the images.
Wen reveals that he survived the Astral Gate disaster as a child and has been unable to age normally ever since. He uses helpless adults as cover for his life, keeping Zebra trapped in his own body. An ordinary bullet cannot stop him. After rescuing Zebra, the crew examines his memories and learns that Giraffe came to exchange the ring for his friend's freedom. The stone in that ring provides a way to reverse Wen's condition, and Spike takes a specially prepared bullet to their final encounter. Wen emerges from a burning wreck still firing, but Spike's shot makes him age rapidly. Wen dies after a brief exchange with Spike, leaving the hunters with the answer to Giraffe's warning rather than a bounty payment.
