A cryptic message from Pao, an old contact, sends Jet to a graveyard on Mars instead of the meeting he expected. There he finds Pao's daughter Meifa and a headstone declaring that her father is dead. Gunmen interrupt their conversation, forcing them to escape together. Meifa believes the message points to something beyond an ordinary death, and she uses her knowledge of feng shui to interpret its references to places and directions. Jet takes her back to the Bebop, where the others tease him about their unlikely partnership, before accompanying her through the city in search of the sunstone named in the clues.
Their pursuers belong to the Blue Snake Syndicate, for whom Pao once worked. Jet reveals that Pao also supplied him with information during his police career and needed help escaping the organisation. The sunstone's unusual connection to the gate disaster leads the crew into hyperspace, where armed drones attack as they approach Pao's location. Spike and Faye defend the Bebop, and Ed helps identify the stone as the focus of the pursuit. Destroying it deals with the attackers and reveals Pao's ship, trapped in an unstable region with little oxygen left. He has used the message to bring his daughter close enough for a final conversation. Jet cannot turn the discovery into a rescue, but Meifa gets to speak with her father before the connection disappears.
